Bone Densitometry
Patient Guides
Bone Densitometry is the examination for assessing osteoporosis. Osteoporosis results from loss of bone
mass, leading to bone weakening and increasing the chance of fracture.
CT
Patient Guides
Computed Tomography (CT) is an x-ray examination performed with a computerised x-ray scanning machine. The CT scan looks at the body in cross section. To produce images, a narrow beam of x-rays is rotated around the part of your body to be examined.
Mammography

A Mammogram is a low dose x-ray examination of the breast/s. The examination is performed by a
Radiographer with specialised skills using specially designed equipment. Mammography plays a central
part in early detection of breast cancer because it can show changes in the breast up to 2 years before a
patient can feel them.
MRI
Patient Guides
MRI is a way of taking pictures of the internal structure of your body. The MRI machine uses a strong magnet and radiowaves to obtain the information required to produce the pictures. It does not use x-rays, Ultrasound or Radio-isotopes.
